'Jerusalem Post' columnist Barry Rubin dies

Longtime "Post" columnist, Middle East scholar, and author passes away at the age of 64.

Veteran Middle East scholar and commentator Barry Rubin died on Monday, his family announced.
A longtime columnist for The Jerusalem Post, Barry was director of the Global Research in International Affairs (GLORIA) Center, editor of the Middle East Review of International Affairs (MERIA), and a professor at the Interdisciplinary Center (IDC) in Herzliya.

Rubin was also the author of several books including Israel: An Introduction,  The Israel-Arab Reader, The Long War for Freedom: The Arab Struggle for Democracy in the Middle East and The Truth About Syria.

A former Fulbright fellow, Rubin taught at the American University, Bar-Ilan University, Georgetown University, the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, Monash University, Haifa University, Tel Aviv University, and other institutions of higher learning.


He served as a Council on Foreign Relations fellow and was a  recipient of numerous awards, grants, and fellowships from institutions such as the US Institute of Peace and Hebrew University's Leonard Davis Center.

The American-born Rubin received his Ph.D. from Georgetown University.
Barry Rubin is survived by his wife Judith Colp Rubin and their two children.

Comment: Dr. Rubin, Barry to his many friends and colleagues, was a giant of a human being.  I last spoke with him in December-he had begun treatments. Condolences, prayers and love I send to his family and his children-this man was someone special and we all grieve with his passing.  More to be written at a later time-thank you Dr. Rubin, we understand what to do.
